1/64 Pierce Dash CF Tower Ladder Build Along

Post by M1968Q » Sat Dec 28, 2019 3:19 am

Next up on my workbench is a Pierce Dash CF tower ladder which I will be making by combining a Shapeways 3D printed cab from JBMayes with a Castle Shannon tower ladder from Code 3. I will be using the C3 chassis, which will require some modifications in order to accommodate the shorter Dash CF cab. The model will be painted green over white to match my Moose Lake fleet. Tonight's photo shows the preliminary mock-up after cleaning the 3D cab and stripping the paint from the C3 body. Much more to come!

I'm excited to see the finial product of this. I've been interested in the Shapeway's cabs, But one thing that holds me back is the Windows. Do you plan on making the windows? or leaving them open? If you do window Id definitely like to see how you do it.

Steven: The side windows will definitely have "glass" as I have thin clear plastic sheet material that I'll use to make them. The windshield will be a greater challenge and may end up being left open. We'll see as I progress - painting starts today.

Don't forget there is that stuff that looks like white glue that can be used to make the windshield. It's sort of difficult to work with but once you get it started, it works pretty well. You might also try some of your windshields from the parts box. This is going to be a great build, like all your others, and I can't wait to see the finished product!

I was able to clearcoat and then prime the 3D cab and then prime the C3 body today. Next up - white paint!

How about using blister packaging? I asume the ones for 9v batteries should have the shape you will need!

Progress report - white paint is finished - next up, masking the cab and painting the top dark green.
