Fire Replicas 75' Seagrave Aerialscope

Post by JoeO » Thu Mar 21, 2019 10:08 pm

I took one of the Fire Replicas Kentland Aerialscope apart so I could create a Ladder for one of the departments I build. If you have not seen this truck the first picture is what I started with after removing the decals and 400 class parts I cleaned off the glue and had it down to the basic white clear coated shell.

From there I use a automotive paint to recolor it. Then i put the chassis and under carriage back together and mounted it back to its base. The reason I put it back on the base is so I have something to hold while decalling or putting parts back on. It's coming along I am about 35% done.

The biggest challenge so far was getting the decals off the basket, i did get the numbers off and decide to decal over the stipe on the basket for fear of breaking the basket. I started decals first and worked section by section.

Joe, you've done extensive, amazing work with these outstanding Fire Replicas rigs. I have one and am thinking of painting the centers of the wheels. Do you know if it's safe to remove the tires (in order to paint the wheels) without breaking the wheels or axles? I realize the resin is more delicate than our typical diecast. Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks a lot,
Michael

Michael,
You can remove the wheels like other trucks spin one forward the other the opposite was to get the wheel off the metal axle. Once off, you can push the center wheel through the rubber tire. You may knock the mud flaps off while doing it, which you can super glue back later.

Good luck
Joe

I made some more progress now that I can do a little painting out side. The drivers side is done with the exception of the department decals on the door and the mirror. I am thinking about calling the rear down maybe some warning decals and that may be it. Working on the officers side now and than the front. I need to find a few more lights since I have changed them up totally on the roof.
