Worcester Police

Post by Rich » Sun Dec 19, 2021 2:13 pm

Just finished these up over the weekend. These 1:43 scale models are the IXO casting. I have to say, I think IXO nailed the Crown Vic. I think it may be the best proportionally, than any other out there, in any scale. They just captured the Crown Vic look. They did come with some nice antennas, and spotlights. But the spotlights to me looked off, so I replaced them with FRR pieces. Also, the wheels/hubcap and tires were out of scale. They were the first gen hubcaps, and were painted white. The tires were too wide. I replaced them with FRR Crown Vic parts. The nice Force 4 LP lightbars were solid blue, including the base. So I painted the edges of the base aluminum. That's about it. They really did not need much attention, other than parts swaps.

RIch,

These look good as usual.

Are the IXO the same ones as the Deaqgostini or Police Cars of the World versions. I have been looking at getting one to do but that shipping from Europe is killer.

Also have you worked with the previous generation model? How is that as far as authentic. The Road Champs is a toy and I want to do a better version for my PSP fleet.

Hey Jeff, I am pretty sure the IXO is the same as the Miami Dade car in the James Bond series, and the first in the DeAgostini series. There could have been others. The IXO version has the spotlights, a much better lightbar, antenna, and silver chrome tips for the exhaust. The wheels are sort of funny, but you can change those out easy enough. I have used the older Crown Vics like you have pictured, for many projects. I think it is the best pre-1998 out there. Hands down much better than the Road Champs or the Cararama. It sits a bit low, maybe the tires are a touch too small. But it sure makes a nice looking car.

Rich,

Thanks for the info. I had a Bond CV but sold it off. Doh. I will bite the bullet again.

If you can find a Darlington or Montpelier, those graphics were decals, and pretty easy to remove.

I agree the IXO Crown Vic was the best. I'd really like to see some find this casting and release some blanks haha. They are getting hard to find at a reasonable price now a days.

Nice customs as always, thanks for sharing!
