Goldvarg Gets NYPD License

Post by Dick Williams » Tue Sep 10, 2019 6:50 pm

Sergio Goldvarg, the Argentine founder and owner of the "Goldvarg Collection," announced on his Facebook page that he had obtained a license from the City of New York that will allow him to produce "the history of the New York City Police cars" in 1:43 scale. Goldvarg began making white metal models many years ago that rivaled Brooklin Models. His new line, begun in 2015, is made of resin and the cars are beautiful, so I can't wait to see which NYPD cars he produces. Most of the cars in his current collection are from the '50s and '60s. He already has a 1970 Ford four-door sedan in his collection. Goldvarg is a collector himself with thousands of diecast vehicles in his personal collection. His company website is https://www.goldvargcollection.com/ but there's nothing on it about the NYPD line other than a small NYPD logo among the other licenses shown at the top left of the home page.

With his '70 Ford already in existence, hopefully we will see this Image[/img]

That's some interesting news. I'm interested in seeing what comes down the line.

Goldvarg has posted a photo of the resin master for his first vintage NYPD model. This is an unusual subject, a '53 Ford ESU REP. The master looks great so far, especially the accurate large roof flashers. The website POLICE N.Y. has a couple of photos of the real thing in their ESU vehicles section (www.policeny.com)

Interesting choice for the first release of a vintage model. Looks like a good start thought.

A friend of mine who's a Goldvarg dealer sent me another photo of his test shots of NYPD models. In this shot you can see painted bodies for the '53 Ford ESU van, a 1970 Ford and a 1958 Ford. Note that the van bodies appear to have the "POLICE" lightbox molded into the roof and there are holes for the emergency lights (and the siren in the case of the '70 Ford) in the roofs of all three models. I wonder if the two small holes on the edges of the roof on the 1970 car are for a McDermott light bar for a Highway unit? On the right is a pile of interior panels and large flashers for the REP. Looking good so far - could this mean he's going to release all three models at the same time? That could get expensive...

That's very interesting. Painting looks very crisp and the details look good. Any idea when we will see a fully finished model?

Goldvarg's Facebook page now has a photo of the prototype 1970 Ford but it just says "coming soon." I assume the beacon light is a placeholder for the test model and not the final version, like the wheel covers. My dealer friend also sent me another photo of the '53 Ford REP, from the front this time.

The tub with the painted models, are some of the samples he is taking to Nuremburg for Toy Fair in February. So its going to be a bit before they are released. If you follow his page on Facebook, he has some other NYPD photos he is using.

Thanks for the info Rich. These look rather promising for those of us who collect NYPD.
