Rainy day kit bash

Post by Rich » Sun Dec 04, 2022 5:14 pm

Its been raining all day, so no better way than to sit in the shop and work on a project. I started this so many years ago. I got the front bumper done, and now working on the side boxes below the doors of the cab. Its a 1:64 scale Code 3 FDNY rescue body, and an Ertl International Paystar. The Paystar is not the exact model that Syracuse used, but pretty close. I had to mill off some of the front from the fenders forward. I re-skinned the sides of the rescue body with sheet styrene. I have a ways to go, but getting back to it was fun, and a good way to spend the day.

That's real sharp. I can't wait to see the finished product.

Got a bit more done today. I finished the battery boxes. They are cut down from the Fold A Tank holder from the Code 3 Freighliner tanker. I mocked up the wheels and tires. The front tires have a pretty tall profile, so I am looking over my stash for some that are not as tall. The interior is painted and installed in the cab, and the front frame is attached. I have to put the grille in yet. The side scene lights are from my new hauler decals. Plenty of work to do yet. I think I am going to run white outlines for the decals. I found a photo since I printed them, that shows the lettering in white. Hoping the current decals come off without damaging the paint.

Nice work on a rebuild! If you have some Solvaset you might try putting some on the decals to soften them and try rubbing them off with a soft tissue. Anything like scraping them will surely mar the paint.
