83-84 Suburban Ambulance

Post by Rich » Wed Aug 16, 2023 5:12 pm

Jeff at PCM has posted an announcement from Greenlight of upcoming releases for first quarter of next year. A 1983 Chevrolet Suburban K20 Custom Deluxe Ambulance – Plain White (Hobby Exclusive) and a 1984 GMC Suburban 2500 Sierra Classic Ambulance - Lebanon Township, New Jersey First Aid Squad (Hobby Exclusive). I dont think they can use the previously announced 1991 Suburban, the sheet metal is different. This is the first I have seen 80's Suburbans announced. Guess we have to wait until they release some artwork to see what it actually will be.

Rich,

Knowing how lazy the GL R&D team is a quick web search found these 2. I think these are the basis they are working off.

I am not sure but I think the body style is the same as the 91. The Sub carried the old body style a few years longer than the pick ups.

I am happy to see this addition. The top might even be able to be used to graft onto van bodies.

We can only hope its a true Suburban high top ambulance. The sheet metal changed several times, mostly front fascia, and of course headlights. If they do it correctly, they can get quite a few years. If the top is pinned in, we can have a pretty wide selection of Suburbans to work with. I would be happy with that.

I'm all for more ambulances. With a little 3D printing (side mirrors), these will be nice for the collection. I hope they actually do the Hightop though.
