LACoFD KME

Post by Engine104 » Tue Nov 15, 2022 6:28 pm

Hi guys,

I wasn't sure if you had seen the LACoFD KME (Engine 12) that New Frontier Collectibles is going to release late this month. Here's their website.. https://newfrontiercollectibles.com/?fb ... 4azJwdJw_8

My personal feeling is it has potential, but I'd rather it didn't have lights and that the chrome pieces would look more realistic (See the old Code-3 SDFD Pierce, for example). I'm happy it is 1:64. I guess it will all boil down to the price. What do you all think?

Mainly, I am thrilled someone is offering a new engine.

Too "plastic" looking for me...And at $250!! I'd much rather spend $100 more and get one of the Fire Replicas KME''s. Way more accurate, detailed, and larger scale. But like you said, at least it's another option for some and it's something new. I just don't know if the quality justifies that price tag.

Hi Troy,
I didn't know it was $250. That is more than I thought it would be. I think Fire Replicas is coming out with an LACoFD KME soon. I would rather have that, I think.

And with the flashing lights, some little kid hands would just love to take it in the backyard and play in the dirt with it. On their page, click the three little lines at the top left. Then click "shop" and you'll see the price and more details. If you click the picture it takes you to more pictures. I'm curious as to why no LA County seal on the doors? (I have my idea why...it rhymes with licensing)

Like the rest of you, I’m out. I have been following New Frontier on Instagram for a few years and felt the model had potential to be the start of something good in 1/64, but not for the price they are asking!

I’m also glad to see others here agree with me in regards to the working lights. A couple of times well over a year ago when he posted prototypes with the working lights, I had some corespondents with them about the working lights and a few thoughts on the model. I remarked about most collectors not wanting the working lights and how they’ll make the model seem like it’s more targeted for the child then adult, and drive the price up, pretty much I was informed it’s what the collectors want. My feeling from my corespondents is they have made up their mind and will probably not understand it’s what other collectors not what they want that sells.

Unless there is gold stashed inside this model, it is worth nowhere near $250.00. As Troy said, for $100 more you get a 100% dead-on accurate model from Fire Replicas that is larger and substantially more detailed. I had high hopes when this was first announced, but alas it is a complete disappointment.

It's a good attempt - but NF is producing these in such a low quantity, and with the economy going in the dumpster, I'd say those two factors are working against the price of this model. I could see maybe $70-$100 but not $250.

I agree with everyone. I had high hopes, but a red flag for me was when they compared the KME with the original Code-3 LAFD Seagrave and not one of the later models that had much better detail, such as the SDFD Pierce, for example. It's a shame, because I know Frontier Collectibles invested a lot of time and money in the project.

The site now list the models at $199.99. Did anyone who ordered already get charged 250 or 199?
