Taking apart Franklin Mint tower

Post by firebuff123 » Wed Dec 01, 2021 12:47 pm

Does anyone have any experience or insight about removing the ladder from a 1:32 Franklin Mint Tower 1? I am contemplating this conversion project with a unit whose ladder is not so functional anyway. Thank you in advance for any assistance,
Michael

You are asking about the tower that has the Maxim cab I assume. If so you need to separate the body from the chassis first. Then there is a piece of plastic plumbing that is in the way of a single screw that goes into the base of the tower. Back that screw off and the tower should come free.

Thank you. I should have been clearer. It is Tower 1 with the E-1 cab. 105 foot tower ladder. :-)

Ah, Sorry. I can't help you there. I don't have one to refer to but I'll bet the process is similar. Look underneath and see where the mounting point is and what you have to remove to clear it.

I have a damaged one I've been meaning to dismantle, if I have timing in the coming weeks I'll try dismantling it and documenting the process

I quickly dismantled mine today, here are some points I found

Start by removing the chassis and wheels using the screws circled in these 2 photos. The front chrome piece under the bumper is hiding the final screw

Once the chassis is off put the cab aside and focus on the box with the circled screws. Don't touch the big ones, they are to hold in the counterweight.

The ladder assembly itself is held in by a 4m hex bolt
