Name Plates on a Plaque

Material Needed:
Actually, this is a very simple process. The oak board, aluminum sheet metal, mirror mounting tape, and paint were purchased from Lowe's.
For you power tool challenged collectors out there, Lowe's will cut the board for free.
The aluminum sheet metal (located on isle 17) comes in pre-cut sizes. Make sure the aluminum is smaller than the board (see photo).
This is VERY IMPORTANT. Don't buy cheap paint! Get the best quality spray paint they have.
Mount wall hanging hardware on the back of the oak board.
Wipe the aluminum down with rubbing alcohol to remove all oils. Spray paint and let dry overnight.
Stain the oak board and let dry. Once, dry spray with a good polyurethane coating. I used semi gloss.
Once everything is dry mount the aluminum sheet to the board using double stick tape. Try and use tape that trophy companies use to stick name plates to trophies. I purchased the tape from a trophy store for $3.00 a roll. NOTE: Once the tape comes in contact with the wood IT IS STUCK there is no moving it around.
I decided to raise the name plate a fraction of an inch off the aluminum. To do this I used mirror mounting tape. It really made the plate stand out. So, mount the name plate on the aluminum. With the mirror mounting tape you really don't have to use the screws to mount the name plate. However, I would place screws in the plate's screw holes to make it look nicer. Hint: Use a lot of mirror mounting tape.
Good Luck!
